Fantasy football

Fantasy-related messages span **all six years** of the corpus from **2020-09-10** onward, with the **2020 season** alone producing roughly **140 documented "fantasy"-keyword messages**.

Fantasy football

The chat's longest-running annual project and the only competition in which all five founding members have routinely participated.

Fantasy football is the chat's first attested recurring institution, predating Hoen, Mmm alcohol, and the 420 Blaze It Leaderboard by between one and two years. The corpus contains 139 messages mentioning fantasy in some form (most of them football), with the earliest in September 2020 and a stable seasonal cadence thereafter. It is, alongside the 420 Blaze It Leaderboard, one of only two long-running competitive structures in the chat.

Origin (2020 season)

The earliest documented fantasy reference is by Evan Bbbender on 2020-09-10:

"Most importantly, the 5-day fantasy cycle has begun" — Evan Bbbender, 2020-09-10

The first competitive prediction follows the same day from Daniel Miller:

"Ooo, do we think Evan will get the coveted prize of most fantasy drop/adds this year?" — Daniel Miller, 2020-09-10

By 2020-09-13 the chat has settled into a stable autumn frame, with Daniel observing "Which will happen first Evan voting or winning fantasy?" and Evan replying with what is the chat's foundational fantasy-football admission:

"I will never win fantasy" — Evan Bbbender, 2020-09-13

The next morning (Monday Night Football aftermath), Cullen Conway reports a uniquely structural loss:

"I don't know if there is a worse way to start this season than to lose to Evan in fantasy, as well as the Pack" — Cullen Conway, 2020-09-14

Daniel Miller supplies the encyclopedia's preferred summary line:

"Lol, this almost makes up for 6 consecutive years of fantasy losses" — Daniel Miller, 2020-09-14

(Six consecutive years implies the chat's actual fantasy league predates the chat itself by at least four years.)

The Henny stake (2020-12-13 → 2020-12-14)

The 2020 season's most consequential exchange is the Henny wager — the chat's first documented use of fantasy football as a vehicle for Henny redistribution:

"Evan has promised Cullen and myself bottles of henny if he wins his fantasy matchup" — Kyle Derrick, 2020-12-14

"Ben is going to get 30 fantasy points" — Evan Bbbender, 2020-12-14

"Josh has negative fantasy points" — Cullen Conway, 2020-12-14

The promise was contingent. The fulfillment is not, in the corpus, recorded.

The Thanksgiving wager

Kyle Derrick proposes the chat's first standalone single-game wager on 2020-11-25:

"Dan, would you be interested in a Thanksgiving fantasy football wager?" — Kyle Derrick, 2020-11-25

Thanksgiving fantasy wagers have, in the years since, become the chat's de facto annual structure for collapsing fantasy and family obligations into a single observance.

Roles

The chat has, across six seasons, settled into stable fantasy roles:

  • Evan Bbbender — the league's most prolific in-chat poster and self-described perennial loser.
  • Kyle Derrick — the league's Mmm Alcohol Correspondent and most consistent wagerer.
  • Daniel Miller — the league's institutional skeptic, with multiple documented requests for transparency regarding the "5-day fantasy cycle".
  • Cullen Conway — the league's most reliable producer of Sunday-night recriminations (cf. "I WON THAT FANTASY GAME AGAINST KYLE. THAT JONNU YHT WAS IN FUCKING GARBAGE TIME AND SHOULDNT COUNT. ALSO TANNEHILL WAS OVER THE LINE OF SCRIMMAGE." — 2020-11-07).
  • Matt — the league's outsider perspective, often supplying betting context ("I bet that browns bengals game tomorrow has heavy fantasy implications for you guys. Stacked teams", 2020-09-16).

Subsequent seasons

Fantasy traffic in the corpus is heaviest during the 2020 season, but messages mentioning fantasy recur in every subsequent autumn through 2026, with the chat's interest in the league apparently undiminished. The encyclopedia notes that no in-chat scoreboard for fantasy results has been built; like the long-requested Hoen Lunch scoreboard, it is treated as a perennial project rather than a delivered artifact.
