The pun
The name modifies J.R.R. Tolkien's posthumous The Silmarillion by substituting swill for the precious-stones referent. Swill — informal English for cheap or excessive drink — is, in retrospect, the most direct early acknowledgement that the chat would, across the next six years, organize itself principally around drink.
